ADOLESCENT GYNECOMASTIA

San Francisco, California - Adolescent gynecomastia occurs during the early teenage years typically 12 to 13 years old.  The hormone balance is very critical during this time.  The hormone estrogen encourages female characteristics to develop and testosterone causes male development.  The imbalance of these hormones with an over balance of estrogen will cause breast bud development in males causing gynecomastia.

Adolescent gynecomastia will usually regress within 18 months of development.  When breast enlargement does not regress in a timely fashion, the emotional consequence that can result in the teenage years can be long lasting for both emotional and social development.

Despite all efforts, gynecomastia can further affect self-esteem and social development.  A team of approach for these young men is required with an Endocrinologist, dietitian, and social support network.  If all efforts are unsuccessful then surgical intervention may be reasonable to prevent further emotional and social deterioration. The video below is a story of three men who have undergone surgery.

The results you show in your video and before/after pictures really give hope to patients! Just thought I'd send you a compliment on your post and beautiful work. I'll definitely find you on Facebook so I can follow your posts. If you'd like to follow my blog, you can find it here at http://GynecomastiaNewYork.net. 5. Gynecomastia in kids and teen is a real issue. It is difficult for them to deal with and it's good to be able to help them. Aside from the confusion about their bodies during a time of development, the psychological burden is a heavy one.

    I wrote about it here.
